Peterborough and the surrounding Fens have significant off-gas coverage — the flat agricultural landscape means many properties run on oil. For oil-heated Fenland properties, a heat pump with BUS grant is one of the strongest financial propositions in England: running cost savings of £400–£800 a year with low competition for MCS installer slots. Peterborough city is gas-connected with the standard BUS case.
Heat demand starts from typical UK figures by property type (detached ~14,000 kWh/yr, semi ~12,000, terrace ~10,000, flat ~6,000) and is adjusted for bedrooms and EPC rating. An EPC C home uses ~15% less heat than D; an F home uses ~30% more.
